I am trying to get hold of the full name of a Peruvian artist (painter) who had a studio in Cusco and painted many faces of Inca chiefs and other subjects. His name included the name Solomon or Saloman. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
Barry J. Fenton

I am trying to find the name and contact information of a peruvian painter who has two studios right off the square in San Blas area of Cuzco. (one was on the street at the bottom of the square to the right. The other was to the right of the bottom of the square and down the hill a couple of shops) I believe his last name was Huartado or something very similar.

This is a total long shot, but I am looking for an artist (or perhaps this gentleman was a copiest of a more-popular artist or art form in the Cusco area. This person was selling his paintings in front of some galleries in the Plaza San Fransisco or the Plaza Regocijo. I can only describe his style as looking like a mixture of wood-block prints and watercolor. The subjects of each of the ones I was interested in were usually women in traditional dress, shown walking from behind, heading up a narrow stone walkway between two-story stone and adobe-looking buildings. These paintings were all in black and white, and made great use of shadow - they were more surreal than realistic and very stark looking (simple, bold lines).Does anyone know what I'm talking about here? I'm kicking myself to this day for not buying one, but I was in the middle of backpacking and knew I wouldn't be able to lug it or afford to ship it home. I would love to be able to track some down and perhaps bring one home with me finally!

I met Amilcar Salomon by chance in Cuzco. I was visiting the city with my fiancee at the time, now my wife, in 1985 and happened to walk by him standing at the door of his studio. We struck a conversation and he gave us a tour of his studio and we ended up buying one of his paintings, our first major purchase as a couople, which still is hanging in our dining room. Its beautiful and brings back wonderful memories. We are returning to Cuzco in January and will look him up. His website is www.amilcarsalomon.com

Did you all find what you were looking for? I hope so, and if not than try doing a web search those are usually pretty successful.

I think that is so crazy that you can just ask anyone on this forum about someone (as long as you know their first and last name) and they can let you know the information you want on them.

I am looking for the gallery or artist that is about 2 doors up or 2 doors down from Amaru Hostal I at Cuesta de San Blas 541 in Cusco that paints bright, colorful abstract people paintings on black fabric. Many of the paintings are skinny vertical ones. I was just there and forgot to return to buy one. Would love to get a connection.

This is some sort of lesson that the next time you get hold of a person and indeed love his work, make sure you ask for his contacts. I used to think original art died with the turn of the 19th century..I was not aware there are still great painters out there. Why don't you go back to that place and use it as a point of reference Miller?

I agree that these are some kinds of long shots given that all you know about a person are their names. The saving grace is that this artist is sort of a well-known person and a social animal for that matter. People seem not to be seeing the need of placing a link in the correct places. Then again, some souls prefer to write everything in CAPS. Unity in diversity if you wish to call it that way. Nonetheless, online is the best chance of finding privy information. Putting it in a forum too is no harm.

Art is the joy of my life, or at least, it used to be very much so. It still holds a great percentage of my heart, but nonetheless, these days art is more about position that possibilities. Location and chance are two items in question which simply bring an artist to view things from a much higher standard and, or even a much better perspective, financially speaking.
Comment #17 Eve (63.176.159.79) - 11/17/09 11:41
Art extends from the heart, however, and money could never buy love. The math is clear.

Does anyone agree on this subject? If so, please let me know. Feel free to say, as the picture is clearly directed only in your very own way.

Have you tried browsing on some painting gallery to find his name. Maybe those people who conducts exhibits of lovely paintings knows that certain painter you are looking for. Or better yet, browse the net for some names in painting. You might see his name there. Just pray that he is not using alias and codenames, so that you will find him quickly. Good luck to your search and have a nice day.
