I'm getting ready for a whirlwind tour of South America. Where are the places in Lima that Americans hang out?

In Lima its Miraflores (larco mar mall) and the Barranco district. There is a nice and reasonably priced hotel called hostel torreblanca that is near to larco mar. Usually runs between 45 and 55USD a night and includes breakfast. Try to pick up some of the cheap tours they offer there.-Shaun

In the Barranco district, there is a bar known as the Juan Bodega bar...pretty awesome little hole-in-the-wall. They serve sandwiches (special pork) and a really fine Pisco (which is an acquired taste for sure). Also, near the main plaza in Miraflores look for an Ice Cream shop. Around the corner, on a side street (maybe 75 yards long) there is a Hostel with a Tapas bar adjacent. This place is a decent meeting point for other tourists.Cusco----go to Mama Afrika. Off the hook. For shizzy.
Iquito----pretty much anywhere in Iquito is a party. BE CAREFUL.

I loved Mira Flores in Lima , Peru. I stay at a hotel called Larco and it is very close to the Marriot and close to the Ocean and a nice mall set into the side of the hill to the ocean. I have been there now twice and I love Mira Flores. I have never felt in danger at all and I stand out like a sore thumb. I am 6 feet tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. And a year later the friendly people around remembered me and welcomed me again very nicely. I felt safer there than I do in the downtown of Chicago. It was a beautiful experience and I am actually looking into purchasing a condo or house there to stay while I return. It seems to be the main hub for any tourists to go before venturing out to the Machu Pichu or Jungles. I have done both. Amazing country with such friendly people and helpfull. Many people are learning english there and every time I went it was easier to communicate. I also am learning more spanish though. :)

You can help me Steven Paulin. Me and my friends are planning to have a Peruvian vacation get together. You've said you have been into Peru for a long time so can you suggest a vacation itinerary or a website which provides information and travel packages to Peru with reasonable yet worthy prices? We will wait for your response.

Hi, if anyone can help us, I would certainly appreciate it. After 9 years traveling back and forth from Lima to North Carolina, a rather nasty agent at The American Embassy has taken it upon himself to not renew my wifes 10 year non-immigrant Visa. He was absolutely not going to do anything for her and there was and is no reason for him not too. Is there anyone out there that can help us or, tell us what to do?
We leave here March 18th for North Carolina. We have violated no statutes or anything. We stay no longer than 4/5 months and then return to Lima and like I said, we've been doing this for 9 years. I am a former Marine, so if anyone can help please, email, fbandito@hotmail.com or gaby_angelus@hotmail.com or, call me here in Lima at 225-9173 at home, or cell at: 999-171987. e're getting pretty desperate and time is creeping up on us. Thanks for anything anyone can do.
Sincerely,
Bob & Gabriela Hasty

Hello Everyone. My wife is in danger of being deported to Peru causing us to loose everything we have here in the sates. I would have no choice but to move to Peru and was tossing up the idea of Lima or Cuzco. I would love to of course choose Cuzco but I'm not sure what type of income one could earn there. I have over 15 years of sales experience primarily in english but do speak almost fluent spanish. I just wanted to see if anyone could point me in the right direction or if anyone had any suggestions.
I am praying that what our lawyer goes through and we can stay here but I need to have a backup plan just in case.
Thanks,
Pierre

I thought when an foreigner married to an American can be eligible for applying U.S. citizenship. I can't understand Pierre's condition.

They become eligible for residency. It is NOT automatic. It is not slow. It is not guaranteed. After becoming a residency and living in the USA for some time, one becomes eligible for U.S. Citizenship.

Why would you want to know where fellow americans stay? I thought when you are visiting a place you would first want to accustom yourself with the locals before finding those you consider to be from 'home.'If I were you, I would first find out where they hang out by nyself. If you become a resident by registration, do you still stand the risk of deportation in case you fall in the wrong side of the law?
