I have been here in Peru for one year now and have concluded that my visit here was one of my few better decisions. I will most likely retire here as I have found the country delightful, the people friendly and warm and the opportunities limitless. Personally I am interested in Aggriculture and economic development to the benefit of the poor and disadvantaged children here. I find the pace here much slower and less stressful than up in the US. Much cheeper to live here as $1.00 will purchase app. $5.00 of value. Yes, I certainly would recommend Peru as your place under the Sun. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you with your questions.

I too have relocated and retired in Peru. I am originally from Houston, Texas. I worked as a correctional officer in Texas Prisons. So my pay for retirement is modest. I find that my money goes so much farther, rent is only $170.00US a month, electricity $40.00US a months and food is minimal. Now...if I could only master Spanish. But the US$ speaks for me.

I am looking to retire in Peru and am just investigating and reviewing real estate opportunities. I am interested in building or finding a home about 60 miles south of Lima on the beach but am not finding much on the web there. Can anyone help?
I am anxious - we are paying down now and liquidating what we can now to get to Peru.

I think you need to do you serious looking a year or two after you've rented in that area for several reasons:1) So you really know you'll be comfortable living there
and
2) Because the DEALS are NOT found on the internet. The high end properties with inflated prices are pushed on the internet.

Peru is an awesome place with great people. My Missions team goes down to Lima once a year and helps out orphans in bad situations. I will retire in Lima and can't wait until that time comes.

In order to get papers to live here in Peru you need one of several things:1. Get married to a Peruvian national; or,
2. Invest $25, 000 in a new business here; or,
3. Get a year-long employment contract with a Peruvian company; or,
4. Show that you are a professional (like locksmith) that can work independently making a living (degrees, certificates, etc. a big plus).

One time near the park in Miraflores the food was good but two little kids kept sneaking into the restaurant to beg for money and the waitress would pick them up and swing them back out...

That would be irritating if kids were begging for money in the restaurant I was dining in. How many times did they keep coming in? Did the management do anything else to keep them out?

If there are kids begging for money here in Peru than I am guessing that the community us farily poor and I do not know if it would be a good idea to retire and move here, dont you retire and move somewhere else for a better living?

Health care is terrible now a days. I do not think any place in the world is offering good health care.

This happened to me while eating at a restaurant in Lima Peru and then I let the children seat at my table and feed them now I have an organization to help needed families in Peru and these two children are attending school on my behalf one of them will be a medical doctor. I will not let anybody hungry if I can feed them because this life has meaning when we help others.

I am looking to meet & exchange email with any person who is fluent in English & lives in Lima Peru. I am ready to re-settle in Lima. If I must, I will leave the country every 3 months if that is what it takes. I need someone locally to help me find a place to stay in Lima. Thanks! My email: kermit777green@yahoo.com

One year could be such a short time to conclude that Peru is a great place .You can however tell the hospitality of the residents within a few days. I have not been there but would like to hear from you after another year or two in order to ascertain whether you will have the same story. Depending on the nature of their economy, you will be able to tell if their currency fluctuates or not
