Safety in Peru

How safe is Peru for retirement? I was told by a Peruvian friend that Surco and Miraflores are excellent and very safe places. Are they safe for retire people? Thank you.

Thank author of this post/commentHey Isabel. Like any third world country, there are safe and dangerous areas. Surco is a nice area BUT surrounding / bordering Surco are poor and some dangerous places. I recommend Miraflores over the the two because it has everything you would need. Examples - clothing stores, very known resturaunts (Starbucks, Chilli's, etc.) movie theaters, recreational areas, etc. Also the security is very reliable as well. I hope this helps you and if you have any other questions, feel free to write me at CollateralHM@aol.com

For a person to be considered as safe in the land that is known as Peru, this would be for a person to know about what it is that one can expect to find when it is that they are interested in moving about the country, simply not knowing where and where to not venture off.
