How safe is Peru for retirement? I was told by a Peruvian friend that Surco and Miraflores are excellent and very safe places. Are they safe for retire people? Thank you.

Hey Isabel. Like any third world country, there are safe and dangerous areas. Surco is a nice area BUT surrounding / bordering Surco are poor and some dangerous places. I recommend Miraflores over the the two because it has everything you would need. Examples - clothing stores, very known resturaunts (Starbucks, Chilli's, etc.) movie theaters, recreational areas, etc. Also the security is very reliable as well.
